Is What You Eat Important?

MODULE 2 LESSON 10

As long as you hit your calorie and protein targets, you can eat whatever you want and still achieve your goals.

This statement is true, but it doesn't mean you should ignore the subject of what you're eating, completely.

Eating a highly nutritious diet has a multitude of benefits for both health, reducing feelings of hunger, and management of cravings.

Choosing to eat a diet largely devoid of nutrients is likely to cause negative implications for your health (which we don't want).

Here are a few tips to help you start thinking about optimising what you eat.

  • 80/20 rule - Aim for 80% of your calories to come from whole foods, such as vegetables, fruit, lean meats, fish, and dairy.
  • Limit refined sugar - You don't have to avoid refined sugar, but limiting it may help.
  • Limit processed foods - Again, you don't have to eliminate these foods. Just don't let them dominate your diet.
  • Wide range of fruits and vegetables - Eating a wide range of fruits and vegetables on a regular basis will help to ensure your vitamin and mineral consumption is where it needs to be.
  • Don't ignore fibre - Digestive health is important, so make sure you're having c.30g of fibre per day (MyFitnessPal will show you this information).
