I have a comical friend who likes to tell people when he's somewhat challenged that he is "perfect and improving". I like his state of satisfaction with the way his life is going, and his proud philosophy of how everything is getting better, yet right where it's meant to be
What Lets Us Discover What Wellness Could Be?
There's a definite sense of wisdom in what was for a while his catchphrase, because it has an innate knowing that he is in power of his reality, all his choices have lead him to this point and he's making the ones best for his own sense of comfort, health and perfect happiness.
Contrast is what lets us discover what wellness could be compared to the experience of it's opposite. For a living I work as a massage therapist, and the most common complaint I get that is in the way of people's wellbeing is shoulder trouble, clenching, stiff, frozen, aching. The most important gratification in my work is the getting to the root of WHY this pain is vying for attention. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, that this sensation is trying to show you something about how you're living your life out of alignment, and to be able to interact with that, question it, understand it, we can manage to alleviate whatever may be the cause of our problems. Wellbeing here for me in terms of comparison is the rising above what is unwanted and moving towards what is wanted, relief, ease, mobility.
It is remarkable how much pain tells stories in bodily locations, and by finding peace with that story, forgiving whatever happened, seeing that it brought you thus far and if was to happen again it would happen differently, it will by affect dissipate. But for the sake of addressing our shoulders as a common weak point, I'm going to lay out the common story and author it differently. I'm sure you or someone you know has had this issue so pass this article on if you find helpful, because in essence, we're done with just correcting our postures, applying anti inflammatory lotions, working in the various stretches to our daily routines, if this pain is a tendency, something more that physical needs to happen. Remember the old adage that says "don't carry the weight of the world on your shoulders" well that's the simple advice I usually lay on my clients, to which I usually see synapses connect and life adjustments played out.
Take a moment to appreciate the capacity your mind has as an affect on your body, and how brilliant of a tool we can use to heal and feel better. If you want my suggestions on how to climb up the scale of wellbeing take a look at my article, How To Raise Your Vibration And Why It Matters To Your Training. I see people these days in the standard nuclear family with one or two adults or on even living alone, with far too much on their plates, enough for a much larger group of people, and a grand part of that which fills their metaphorical life plate unwanted with burdens, drudgery and servitude. Remember the function of our shoulders is to give and receive, are we participating willingly? Does the meaning of what we give and receive resonate positively of negatively? Our shoulders in this aspect are geniusly located by our heart's region where love flourishes, which further begs the question, are we doing things because we want to or because we feel we have to, because if we are doing things that 'our hearts really aren't in' you bet your shoulders will resist.
So How To 'Be Well'?
First off, we have to realise we are primarily human-beings, rather than human-doings. In this sense we need to prioritise how we feel rather than the summation of things we do. By paying attention to our emotions and sensations which are our internal indicators as to whether we are going in the right direction or not, and by feeling good about what we're reaching for there's no doubt we'll grasp it more effectively. Next we have to realise we are part of a huge human network, or a 'collective consciousness' all interconnected and interdependent, this means that your lack of wellbeing is inevitably going to felt by others in one way or another, so better take charge of your needs with their help, likewise your joy will be felt so more reasons to move in the direction of it. Relationships are the fabric of life, and to weave together our heart's true desires with others, we will strengthen and create beautiful patterns in that fabric. By embracing our dependency on others and not baring all the weight on our own, by widening our circles to realise more folk we can rely on, and the more skills that can be shared, the more we can align with an ever improving and perfecting experience of 'well'.
