With minimum workout gear required and the best gym in the world right on your door-step there, jogging can be one of the most beneficial forms of exercise to make change to your health and fitness.
Saying that, jogging can be hard to make a regular habits. It's especially difficult for beginners to get into the "stride" (running pun) of things, which can leave you feeling disheartened and inevitably call it quits. All the good intentions you had are now a distant memory.
This is where we come in - I have designed this couch to 5k to get complete running novices off their sofas and on to their feet. You will see Edinburgh in a completely different light and run places that you never knew existed.
What Is Couch To 5k
I decided to set up this class to help beginners start moving and get into running. I have done the research and now it's time to implement and change the way people view themselves and their health.
The programmes aim is to get you comfortably running 5 kilometres in 8 weeks. It will be a gradual process and the distance will increase every run you do over the course of 8 weeks, I will be there to help motivate and provide you with a running plan so you can run in your own time between morning classes.
We will all be in this together and the aim will be to run a Saturday Morning Park Run as a group at the end of the 8 week.
How Does Couch To 5k Work
One of the biggest challenges I find with beginners when it comes to fitness is the not knowing where to start. A common theme after speaking with people is that they take the leap to start and find that they actually over do it with their first session. They feel sore for a good number of days, skip the days they should be exercising again, quickly feel deflated and give up when they're just getting started. This class works because it starts with a mixture of running and walking, which helps to gradually build up your fitness level making the challenge feel achievable right from the start.
Who Is Couch To 5K For?
This class is for everyone, whether you've never run before, or if you would like to get into it, or if you have set yourself a challenge later on in the year to run a Tough Mudder, whatever it may be couch to 5k is an easy way of getting fitter and healthier.
What Are The Benefits?
Now I am sure you don't need be to tell you what the health benefits of moving are do you? Well, incase you have missed all the health guidelines from well pretty much every health professional, government and TV advert here's a recap.
